We haven't travelled through the archives for a few weeks, but realised that this time 18 years ago we were heading off to America - anyone else feel old now?! We love finding programmes with some of @ralphallwood scribbled notes on! Can you spot yourself in the list of singers?
😍 We love an old photo to add to the archives! We're back on our European Tour here in 1986 - England to Germany to Austria to Italy. By all accounts, this tour was great fun and, for many, it was their first time on such a tour. What are your favourite Rodolfus Choir tour memories?
If you spotted your name in our program last week, you may spot your face in this picture! A Rodolfus Choir tour to Venice in what we think was 1986! If you remember joining this tour, make sure you're in our Alumni Association (follow the link in our bio), and let us know if you've any old photos or programs hiding away in a box somewhere. We would LOVE to see them! And let us know what you're up to now - it would be great to reconnect 😃
There's a few familiar names here! This is from an informal concert performed at the end of an Eton Choral Course in 1986, something which still happens in our courses today! Were you there in 1986?
We thought we'd take another trip down memory lane today as here at Rodolfus HQ, we're starting to feel excited as plans for the Choral Courses 2021 are starting to take shape!
In an ordinary year, we would put on 7 Choral Courses - 3 junior and 4 senior. Back in 1984, @ralphallwood was very pleased to be able to say:
'Because of the overwhelming number of applications last year, the course will be split into two this year...'
Growing from two courses to seven! We're pretty proud of that.
We really love this poster from our New Year's concert at Douai Abbey from 2015, and there was a wonderful selection of choral pieces on the program. We had hoped to have been there this year, so we have everything crossed we'll be there next year instead.
Our archive post today is only going back as far as 2018, but we love this Christmassy program from another carol service with @breastcancerhaven that we were so thrilled to be singing at! December is always such a wonderful time for singing, and we miss it so much!
On Wednesday 11th December in 2013, we were singing in a carol service helping to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Haven. We have sung as part of this festive event over a number of years, and it is always such a wonderful thing to be a part of.
We're only jumping back 8 years for this 'Through the Archives' post, but it's a wonderful time to be revisiting this concert!
Almost to the day, we were at Cadogan Hall performing Handel's Messiah with the English Chamber Orchestra. This Thursday 3rd December, we will be taking part in this year's Virtual Messiah as part of the London Handel Festival at St George's, Hanover Square!
In April 1986, The Rodolfus Choir embarked on a European tour! We started the trip in Walton-on-Thames at St Mary's Church before heading off to Germany 🇩🇪, Austria 🇦🇹 and Italy 🇮🇹. Ralph Allwood was there, Simon Holt was on the organ, and our very own Annabel was singing in the choir!
Red isn't really our colour these days! Back in 2002, we had these red programs to advertise our 'Eastern Counties Tour'. But what a tour! We’d love another tour to Ely Cathedral, Norwich Cathedral and St Michael's Church in Framlingham in 2021!
We're sticking with the noughties for this week's 'Through The Archive' post. It's Sunday 7th April 2001, and The Rodolfus Choir were up in Farndon in Cheshire. Ralph Allwood was conducting and Tom Winpenny played the organ. What we don't know, however, is who was singing! Let us know if you were! And don't forget to join our Alumni Association!
The year 2000! A year that feels a much simpler time than 2020. We're still enjoying delving through the archives, discovering choral course and choir concert programs from the last 40 years. St Martin's Church in Salisbury hosted The Rodolfus Choir on the 22nd July for this one. Does anyone remember being there? In the audience or as a singer? Don't forget to join our Alumni Association and send in any pictures or programs we can add to our archives!
We love the detail on this drawing of Douai Abbey. We also love performing there! This flyer is from a Rodolfus Choir concert back in 1996, and we've everything crossed we'll be singing there again on New Year's Eve this year (or at least streaming from there...watch this space 🎤) Have you sung at Douai Abbey? Perhaps even at this concert in the 90s! Get in touch!
We're jumping back in time to 1994! The Rodolfus Choir had a concert at Kingston Parish Church and this was the leaflet advertising it. We're searching through the archives for old programs and singer lists, but if you were a member of the choir in the 1990s, we'd love to hear from you! Click here to read about our Alumni Association and to get in touch.
Before the days of social media and email advertising, THIS is how you would have found out about the Choral Courses! Whilst much has changed in marketing since 1983, we still have a course at Uppingham School, Ralph Allwood is still our Director and we still provide a very high level of music making for young singers!
Throwback to 1982! We were at Uppingham School with Ralph Allwood for the third year of Choral Courses! Were you there too? Join our Alumni Association and share your memories with us. This year was Roderick Williams' first course with us! You can read about his experience here.
Who remembers one of our first Choral Courses from 1981? We've found so many old programs & photos right back from the early 80s and we LOVE this one! Were you on this course? We’d love to hear from you!
