Inspiring Tomorrow's Singers

Hackney Children's Choir

Tom Daggett, Engagement Partner from Hackney Children’s Choir

‘The choral course is a magical place, and I had the best week. I loved the friends I made, the food, and the music. We learned Britten Missa Brevis, and songs from ‘The Greatest Showman’. I can still remember all the words. I was nervous at first because it was my first time away from home, but as soon as I arrived at Cheltenham College and met the staff I was OK. They were really friendly.’

The Hackney Children's Choir offers local families a musical education based on the choral tradition. That's why we've been sending children on Choral Courses for five years - the varied musical diet (Britten Missa Brevis to Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy) taught with excellence and compassion supports us in our mission. Past attendees -- who've enjoyed recent successes by winning school music scholarships -- are our biggest advocates, and we've already had six children attend the Junior Choral Course in Easter 2019. This year, we've launched 'Hackney Choral' -- a project including the children's choir, a new senior choir for 12-18s and our own local holiday courses. With performances in 2019 including Vivaldi, Gloria, Orff, Carmina Burana, and Handel, Messiah, our children are flying! We're looking forward to deepening our shared work with the Foundation.
