Rodolfus Choir Opportunities Noticeboard

We have been asked to bring the following opportunities to the attention of our singers.

None of these opportunities is recommended or arranged by the Rodolfus Choral Foundation, so please make your own decision about whether to apply or get involved.

Tenor & Bass choral scholarships (St Mary Magdalene, Richmond)
St Mary Magdalene, Richmond, seeks to appoint a Tenor Choral Scholar and Bass Choral Scholar with immediate effect. This is an ideal opportunity for undergraduates, recent postgraduates, or those preparing for university choral scholarships.
 
Scholarships attract an annual stipend of £2000 and scholars will receive mentoring and tuition. There are frequent opportunities for solos, recitals, and use of the church as a private rehearsal space. Weddings and funerals will attract separate fees. Choral scholarships (St Alfege, Greenwich)
St Alfege is home to a high-standard, auditioned SATB choir of around 30 singers, and is currently welcoming applications for Choral Scholarships.
 
The scholarships offer an excellent opportunity for young singers to develop their choral and musical experience alongside their studies, singing a wide range of repertoire from the Renaissance to the present day. The choir sings regularly at the church’s weekly Choral Eucharist and monthly Choral Evensong, as well as taking part in concerts, special services and occasional broadcasts and tours.
 
Choral Scholars receive:
  • A scholarship of £2000 honorarium + paid weddings & funerals.
  • Regular experience of a wide range of sacred choral repertoire
  • Opportunities for solo singing and developing ensemble skills
  • The chance to work closely with the Director of Music and other professional musicians
  • A friendly and sociable musical community in a beautiful historic church in Greenwich
The regular commitment is:
Thursdays: 7.30–8.45pm – choir rehearsal
Sundays: 9.15am–12.30pm – rehearsal and Choral Eucharist
Last Sunday of the month: 4.00–6.00pm – Choral Evensong
The church is particularly keen to hear from strong young singers who are enthusiastic about choral singing and interested in developing their musical experience alongside their studies.

Choral scholarships (St Mary's Church, Nottingham)

The Rodolfus Choir’s Assistant Director, Peter Davis, is Director of Music at this church, where the choir is acclaimed as one of the finest Anglican church choirs in the country. Renowned for its versatility and wide repertoire, the choir regularly sings three choral services a week, as well as performing ambitious concerts and participating in BBC broadcasts, international tours and recordings. The adult choir consists of at least eight choral scholars who sing alongside dedicated adult volunteer singers, many of whom are former university choral scholars themselves. Choral scholarships have attracted young singers of significant talent to St Mary’s over the years. They contribute greatly to the choir’s energy and social life! Scholarships are fully funded and overseen by the St Mary’s Choral Scholars Trust.
 
Scholars enjoy the following benefits:
  • additional fees from weddings, funerals etc.
The diverse and extensive repertoire coupled with the regular programme of three services per week ensure that all choral scholars are supported to develop their musical experience and ability. Our choral scholars all share a passion and talent for choral music, and many of them have gone on to build successful music careers. Scholars are expected to commit fully to all services, rehearsals and concerts that fall within university term, but can be excused from up to five commitments per term.
 
Successful scholars need to demonstrate strong vocal and sight-reading ability. Choral scholarships are awarded in all four voice parts, and are awarded solely on merit. The church always have vacancies each academic year, and would be pleased to offer auditions to singers before Easter in the year that they will be starting university. This may help students in making firm UCAS decisions about their choice of university.

Choral scholarships vacancies 2027-28 (St David's Cathedral)

St David’s Cathedral Choir is currently advertising vacancies for one Alto, one Tenor and one Bass Choral Scholar from September 2027 for the duration of the 2027-28 academic year. Scholarships include generous remuneration (£4000 p.a.), rent-free shared accommodation in the ancient Cathedral Close and music lesson allowance including travel, opportunities to perform in services, concerts and on BBC Radio, and the opportunity to live on the beautiful Pembrokeshire Peninsula in Britain’s smallest city with a strong community feel. 

Past scholars have gone to study music and singing at RWCMD, Cambridge, Bristol and London Universities, or been appointed to further scholarship or professional positions at Hereford, Gloucester, Southwell, Ely, Lincoln, Exeter, Truro and Edinburgh Cathedrals. 

The scholarships are open to people of any gender, and would be ideal for those seeking a gap-year before university, or final year university students assessing their options following graduation.
